Central Region is home to over 460,000 Alaskans or 65% of Alaska’s population (Anchorage, Mat-Su, Kenai Borough, Whittier, Dillingham, and Bethel).

80% of all future population growth expected to occur in Central Region.

By 2042, 88% of Alaska’s population expected to live in Anchorage, Mat-Su and Fairbanks.

Central Region maintains 4,600 lane miles of road, over 540 lane miles of airport runways.

    The region owns/maintains 2 harbors, 69 airports, 250 bridges, 206 state facilities, 20 maintenance stations, in addition to the Whittier Tunnel (the longest tunnel in North America at 2.5 miles long).

    The National Highway System is NHS in Alaska = 23% of road miles and receive 57% of federal funds.

    Central Region has the highest traffic volumes in the state on the National Highway System routes.
