- MV LeConte Embarks on a comprehensive annual overhaul beginning November 17th, 2023 at the Vigor shipyard in Ketchikan. This maintenance period will include:
- Main Engine Overhauls: 30,000-hour major overhauls, optimizing engine efficiency and extending their lifespan for enhanced reliability.
- Hull Preservation: Thorough sand blasting and painting of the entire underwater hull to preserve and protect against corrosion and environmental factors.
- Tank and Void Inspection: Preservation work ensuring the integrity of coatings and condition of all tanks and void spaces.
- Exterior Repair and Preservation: Steel repairs, as necessary, and painting of decks and superstructure.
- Various Repairs and Upgrades: Including automatic bus transfer switch, ventilation, keel coolers, new dishwasher, and more.
- System Inspections: Assessing multiple systems, including the switchboard and boiler system.
- Maintenance, inspection, cleaning, and renewal of various vessel machinery, equipment, appliances, and systems.
- ABS Intermediate Hull and Machinery Surveys: Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- USCG annual certification of communication, firefighting, and lifesaving equipment and systems.
MV LeConte will return to Southeast Alaska in peak condition, ready to continue its essential service.

- Overhaul will include these items:
- Renewal of Port & Starboard Shaft Stern Tubes which were temporarily repaired last October.
- Regulatory 5-year Credit Shaft Inspection by Coast Guard and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)
- Tank and Void Inspection: Preservation work ensuring the integrity of coatings and condition of all tanks and void spaces.
- Exterior Repair and Preservation: Steel repairs, as necessary, and painting of decks and superstructure.
- Maintenance, inspection, cleaning, and renewal of various vessel machinery, equipment, appliances, and systems.
